The short answer is, no.
We live in a digital age where people without educational backgrounds are building drones by watching YouTube videos and massive open online courses (MOOC). The playing fields have been leveled globally because access to information is getting cheaper and faster. Combine this with many open-source initiatives, and one could logically conclude that staying ignorant is only by choice.
There was a time – before the digital revolution – when reputed educational institutions or companies were of great significance because they were repositories of information. To access cutting edge information was only through these entities. This is no more the case.
There may be some recruiters who are still partial to candidates from pedigree institutions and reputed companies, however, such scenarios are becoming insignificant. Successful career progress in the digital age, is solely the individual’s responsibility.
